Primary

Welcome to TCSI primary section. The Primary section starts from Year 1 and spreads to Year 6. Year 1 and Year 2 are on the ground floor. Whereas Year 3 to 6 are on the first floor. Key stage 1 classes (Year 1 and 2) are designed to make a smooth transition from FS to the primary section with homeroom teacher and assistant teacher in every class. Years 3 to 6 have subject specialized teachers.

Each year-group has three or four classes together. Other facilities include our Art, Library, Music and a Computing rooms.

School Playground is systematically equipped to enhance the outdoor learning environment – with dedicated spaces and a play timetable for primary students. The playground also has a green area, football and basketball.

Both the indoor and outdoor learning environments are continually reviewed and developed.

Our Intent

At TCSI, we strive to make our children passionate about learning and make their learning as much fun and as meaningful and relevant as possible. We offer children an excellent education in a safe, calm, creative, inclusive and stimulating environment. Every child is valued as an individual; we aim to nurture well rounded, respectful and confident children who will develop skills for life-long learning. We nurture our children on their journey and encourage them to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world. We take our responsibility to prepare children for life in the future very seriously and ensure that the fundamental Human Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school.

TCSI offers the National Curriculum for England supplemented by the UAE Ministry of Education. The school is geared to prepare students for British IGCSE examinations.

At TCSI, we aim to provide a highly effective education which prepares students for life, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to contribute to a thriving society. It is our intention to enable all students to acquire knowledge that takes them beyond their personal experience, exposing them to the powerful knowledge of each subject discipline.

We intend that all students secure fundamental literacy and numeracy as well as giving them the knowledge, skills and confidence they will need to succeed in the 21st Century world. This will provide young people with understanding and motivation for further studies and enable them to make informed decisions in their everyday lives, including about their education and employment.

It is our intention to inspire young people and enable each child to discover the joy of learning and to nurture their individual talents, helping them to fulfill every aspect of their potential and to encourage their growth into ambitious and effective citizens, ready to play their part in their community and the world.

Preparation for life

To equip students to contribute to a thriving society we believe that our role is to develop students who:

  • can communicate effectively and with confidence in a wide range of situations and audiences.
  • have a secure understanding of their rights and a respect for the rights of others.
  • develop healthy, positive relationships with others.
  • understand how to care for both their physical and mental health and make positive lifestyle choices.
  • understand issues affecting the planet e.g., climate change and take a role in addressing them.
  • have secure literacy, numeracy and a good understanding of how to use technology to support learning.
  • possess skills to enable creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration.

We recognise that barriers and disadvantages are inherent in wider society and therefore intend, through our curriculum, to limit the impact of bias, including relating to gender, ethnicity and disability. We acknowledge the challenges experienced by many of our students in becoming fluent English speakers, whilst valuing greatly the richness that diversity contributes to our school community.

The TCSI Curriculum

The curriculum is the substance of what learners know and can do. Through our curriculum, we intend that students will be able to know more, do more and remember more.

What students learn is organised into a framework, sequenced appropriately for each subject discipline, creating carefully designed programmes of study. The curriculum is rich in scope. It fulfills the National curriculum and exceeds it through the inclusion of locally relevant content and activities such as subject wise weeks, sporting competitions and students’ leadership, which increase the breadth of the offer for students.

The curriculum design has inter-disciplinary links made, where they naturally occur. Each subject discipline has its own timetabled space to ensure students know which subjects they are studying and can make connections with prior learning.

As the progression model, the curriculum builds on the foundational learning which begins in the Early Years. Our learning journeys are sequenced to enable students to make connections with previous learning, enriching their schemata as they progress through each stage of the curriculum. Connections to future learning are explicitly highlighted so that students recognise the purpose of learning specific knowledge and skills, and the relevance of current learning in their learning journey.

The curriculum emphasises knowledge, supported by communication and language development, and provides a secure base on which to develop skills, including those needed for problem solving and innovation.

Curriculum booklet is shared with the parents at the beginning of the year. Weekly plans are shared every Friday afternoon to keep the parents informed about what is being done in the classroom.

Partnership with parents
  • We ensure that parents/carers have a strong and respectful partnership in the early years which enables children to thrive.
  • We listen regularly to parents and give parents clear information about their children’s progress through face-to-face opportunities.
  • Parents are encouraged to support their child’s learning and development at home as this has a significant impact on their child’s learning.
  • We take the time to ‘get to know’ and understand the children and their families, enabling us to offer support as needed.
  • Parents/carers are invited into school for a ‘Stay and Play’ session with their child prior to starting school. This provides parents/carers with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the classroom environment and meet other parents.
  • Parents/carers are given the opportunity throughout the year to engage in the wider school community.
  • Parents are invited into school for regular parents’ meetings to provide an update about their child’s learning and progress.
  • Parents/carers are kept up to date with events, learning and achievement via Seesaw and email.
  • Children with additional needs have ‘shared conversations’ to ensure targets and progress are shared.
  • We are flexible in our approach to communicating with parents/carers and adapting our communication methods to suit different preferences.
